and as a virtual broadcast for those at home

Using the courthouse records of the family of Abner Jenkins, a prominent early settler of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, Robin Perkins demonstrates how these records can provide details that enrich the family story and bring our ancestors to life. Courthouse records often contain primary information that is invaluable for genealogists and family historians. They are of particular importance to researchers who want to learn more about their ancestors than their names and the dates and places of their birth, marriage, and death.

In her lecture, Robin Perkins unveils selected original courthouse records from several generations of one descending lineage of Abner Jenkins, exposing the audience to a variety of record types that may be available at courthouses across the country. In so doing, she also provides a rich example of how these records can be utilized to spin an interesting tale.

Robin Perkins is currently serving as the Director of Records Management for the St. Tammany Parish Archives Department under Clerk of Court Jessica Jenkins Brewster. In this position, she is responsible for the organization, preservation, and access to current and historic records of St. Tammany Parish.

Robin has a Master’s Degree in Information Studies and Technology from Northern Illinois University. She has served as a researcher and consultant on many commercial and academic history projects and is published in the field of educational assessment. In 2008, Robin received an Excellence in Government Award of Individual Merit from the Louisiana Bureau for Governmental Research.
