Crime reporter Jack McEvoy, shocked by his brother's death, starts investigating a surprising rise in police suicides. A very disturbing pattern of coincidences suggests that a cop-killer is choosing them with considerable care. From coast-to-coast, Jack follows the trail of unusual 'suicide notes'. He may very well be on to the story of a lifetime. But what Jack is unaware of, and that is scarier still is that 'the Poet' knows that Jack is on his tail.

Five stars from me. I think this book is his best work so far. Lots of plot twists, misdirections, and mystery from beginning to end. Even though I love the Bosch series, and have read every book about Harry, the new character (Jack), is very well developed, likeable and believable. I wouldn't be surprised if this book was made into a movie.

Must-read Connelly!! Irresistible--can't put down--plot! LOVE!

The Poet is good until about 3/4 the way through and then it's apparent how the plot will play out.

Not as good as a Bosch novel, but I'll probably try the next one in the series.

Although not a fan of this particular genre [can't explain that without giving it away], only Connelly could handle it sooo well - - another blockbuster from the master! [Starts relatively slowly, but worth the build-up.]

How long must I wait until KCLS puts The POET back in rotation.......the TWO copies available have been on a holds shelf for quite some time I have been waiting almost a month myself. It sure would be nice to get that book. As the persons who held them are NOT as interested in it as I am............please rectify this.

Move over, Harry Bosch, there's a new guy in town. Connelly, who happens to be Bill Clinton's favourite mystery writer, introduces a crime-beat reporter researching a series of articles about cop suicides. As he delves into the phenomenon, a disturbing pattern emerges and he soon suspects a serial killer is at work--a cop killer who leaves a trail of suicide notes drawn from the poems of Edgar Allan Poe. Destined to be the best crime novel of 1996.

A good book but I didn't like it as much as other works of his. The Haller/Bosch characters remain my favorites. I thought the story line wandered a bit from time to time.
