Many people have long suspected, as astrologers believe, that the day you were born affects your personality. While no one knows exactly how or why, birthdays do tend to be uncannily accurate predictors of psychological tendancies. The Secret Language of Birthdays by Gary Goldschneider and Joost Elffers describes in detail the characteristics and quirks of personality associated with being born on a particular day of the year. The 366 personality profiles in The Secret Language of Birthdays are based on a combination of astrology, numerology, the tarot, and Gary Goldschneider's many years of observation of more than 14,000 people, including contemporary and historical figures. Goldschneider's theory of "personology" proposes that all life is cyclical: people born on the same day occupy the same point in the year's cycle and thus share certain characteristics.Learn what famous personalities were born on your birthday...Study your astrological sign and your personology profile...Your strengths, weaknesses, and major concerns will be illuminated while you are given practical advice and spiritual guidance. While you study your profile, you will find it hard to resist examining those of family, friends, colleagues, and favorite celebrities. No one who reads this book can feel left out, since each one of us has a birthday. The Secret Language of Birthdays may help to bring people to a better understanding of themselves and of others, including those living now, those who have gone before, and even those yet to come. The Secret Language of Birthdays, is truly a celebration of our differences and similarities as human beings.

Look to the Stars: Astrology vs. Astronomy

“We are born at a given moment, in a given place and, like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season of which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything more.” —Carl Jung Astronomy is the scientific study of the stars, celestial bodies and the universe. Astrology is considered a pseudo-science that is used to predict a person's destiny and… (more)

Simply fun to read! This is a great reference book for devotees of astrology, or even psychology, but is also a fun read for anyone looking to demystify someone they know, or figure out a difficult personality.

Bona fide science or generalized nonsense? Certainly, much controversy surrounds astrology and its claims to accurately determine the characteristics of a person born on a certain day of the year. But Gary Goldschneider's hefty, 800+ page reference book will give even the most ardent non-believers pause for thought.

"The Secret Language of Birthdays" delves into astrological detail extending far beyond the usual look at sun signs. The book includes a myriad of information including birthstones, colours, plants, trees and musical keys that bear relevance to each zodiac sign. Goldschneider divides each zodiac month into five separate periods and attaches an image to each period in the form of a single word or a two-three word phrase at most. He then divides the entire zodiac year into 48 periods revisits each subdivision of the relevant zodiac sign in greater detail. Finally and most entertainingly, he gives 366 descriptions, one for each day of the year, of the personology of a person born on that day.

Goldschneider impressively combines numerology, tarot and the influence of the minor planets in his readings. He gives each day a fascinating, one-line heading which captures the persona portrayed in the reading ("The Day of Language", for example). He describes the strengths and weaknesses of each persona and even includes a mantra for each to follow. Any person reading his or her relevant entry might find it uncannily accurate...or not. Regardless, the book dispenses valuable advice on areas of personal development and growth. A fantastic resource for both the mildly interested and the astrological junkie.

this book is astrologically and interpersonally quite inspiring. like astrology itself, i find it to have it's occasional faults within the rare individual, but overall it is a great tool for looking within yourself and at those around you. i've spent a slew of nights with candles, wine and friends strewn across my floor taking turns to read of one another, and it's seldom a miss.
