Over the past three decades, Alec Baldwin has established himself as one of Hollywood's leading men. His work in popular movies -- including Beetlejuice, Working Girl, The Hunt for Red October, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Cooler, and It's Complicated -- and his roles as Jack Donaghy on Tina Fey's irreverent series 30 Rock and as Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live have made him a household name. In Nevertheless, Baldwin transcends his public persona, shedding light on facets of his life he has long kept private. He introduces us to the Long Island child who felt burdened by his family's financial struggles and his parents' unhappy marriage; the Washington, DC, college student gearing up for a career in politics; the self-named "Love Taxi" who helped friends solve their romantic problems while neglecting his own; the young soap actor learning from veterans of the theater; the man struggling with a brief addiction to drugs and alcohol; the husband and father who acknowledges his failings and has battled to overcome them; and the consummate professional for whom work is everything. Throughout, he shares an insider's anecdotes from the sets of beloved movies, insights into what the world's foremost performers do on stage and screen, and stories of the people, famous and not, who have had the greatest influence on his work and personal happiness. Told with his signature candor, astute observational savvy, and devastating wit, Nevertheless reveals an Alec Baldwin we have never fully seen before.

An honest and valuable look into life. If you enjoy Alec Baldwin's podcast, "Here's the Thing", you'll most likely find this book a great companion.

Alec Baldwin is very complicated, like all human beings. He is funny, thoughtful, nasty and absolutely adorable. Anyone that has a child should be able to understand how angry you can be with that child. Fortunately, we are not subjected to the media like a famous person is. I enjoyed this read tremendously. Thank you Mr. Baldwin for your insights and your inspiration to move forward, whether we want to or not.

Interesting read. He does mention the bad points in his life but he doesn't focus on them and keeps it positive.

A quick read, somewhat interesting. That is all.

You can't deny this is an extremely gifted and talented man.

I enjoyed this book and no doubt he has enough material for many more. And I look forward to them.

As much as I enjoy him, I was disappointed when the voicemail from him meant for his daughter Ireland became public. I know he has apologized to her but it was a difficult for me to understand how a father could speak to a daughter in that manner. He does address that in his book and there is a reason...but there's still no excuse.

Sinking into this book during a night of insomnia I found it eminently readable and enjoyable beginning with the premise that most of what Mr. Baldwin did, he did for money. As I moved further through the book on other nights - and ultimately through to the end - I found he and the stories far less engaging or interesting. In fact, 50% of the book was 4-star worthy; the remainder 3-star territory. Simply put: learning of his present state as a happily married, financially successful father held little interest for me.

Although Mr. Baldwin's SNL portrayal of Trump is the comedy of our times, I wasn't interested in what he had to say about politics or politicians despite him holding beliefs similar to my own. The final 25% of the book, as such, was difficult to finish though I did. A good read for 50%, an okay read for the next 25%, and an uninteresting read for the final push... that about sums it up.

This is really an engaging and delightful read. Alec Baldwin emerges as a thoughtful, honest, intelligent and caring human being. It can give us a glimpse of the fact that the media does not always give the true picture, and can caricature famous people. I found a lot of generosity of spirit in this book. I think it will give the reader a much clearer picture of Alec, and by the end you will be cheering for him and the happy family life he is now embracing. Highly recommended.
