"Sparks are champions of (weird) science, complete with capes and costumes and amazing superpowers that only make sense if you don't think about them too hard. Darklings are creatures of myth and magic: ghosts, vampires, were-beasts, and the like. Doors creak at their approach. Cobwebs gather where they linger. Kim Lam is just an ordinary college student until a freak scientific accident (what else?) transforms Kim and her three housemates into honest-to-goodness Sparks-- and drafts them into the never-ending war between the Light and Dark. Now they have to master their new abilities, while coming up with cool new costumes and code names for themselves. But the learning curve is steep and there's no time to lose."--Page 4 of cover.

Freaking brilliant and it's sooooooo good to see a novel set in Canada, and Waterloo to boot. A new set of superheroes are created through an accident at the University of Waterloo, and they fight against vampires, werewolves and supervillains. Such a great idea, and it should lead to a fabulous series

Great Supehero Urban Fantasy title with tons of action and a unique take on light v. dark. It is very tongue-in-cheek and pokes a lot of fun at the superhero comics genre. The author does a great job at world building by having the narrator speak in such a way that you feel as if the two of you are sitting at a coffee shop while she tells her story. Fun cast of characters and exciting super powers. The second in the series comes out Nov. 6, 2018 (as of 5/2/18) and is called "They Promised Me the Gun Wasn't Loaded."
