A Small Bit of Bread and Butter
Letters From the Dakota Territory, 1832-1869Book - 1996
The letters of Mary Ann Longley Riggs, pioneer and missionary, tell of her life with her husband and eight children as they worked with the Dakota Sioux in what is now Minnesota and South Dakota. Mary Ann's letters are a rich collection of observations and a detailed description of what she saw and experienced.
The letters, sent to her family in Massachusetts, were collected and carefully and lovingly edited over fourteen years by Maida Leonard Riggs, Mary Ann's great-granddaughter.
