Title: Wonder

Director: Stephen Chbosky

Rating: 4.5/5

Wonder was a film directed by Stephen Chbosky, but it was originally a novel written by R.J Palacio. In the movie, a boy with facial deformities named August Pullman, also known as Auggie, goes to a public middle school for the first time. Since he has never really interacted with kids his age, he struggles to make friends at first. His family is very patient with him and tries to encourage him to be more comfortable with himself. His sister, Olivia (also known as Via), is someone who is very understanding of him; Auggie unintentionally receives a lot of the attention which leaves Via to be very lonely most of the times. The movie is directed in a way that allows you to see different perspectives and not just how Auggie sees the world, which I found very cool.

I enjoyed the movie a lot. I had also read the book and found that they did leave some parts out that should’ve been added to help create a more intense atmosphere. Despite that, the movie was well directed and I found that I was able to immerse myself into the movie. I also really liked the actors and actresses that they chose to play as I felt they were able to catch the emotions portrayed in the book.

I recommend this movie to all ages to be honest. In my opinion, I think this movie could specifically be targeted towards 9-13 year olds as the movie has a great message. I also think because they left some scenes out of the movie, it’s not too intense for those younger viewers. Wonder could be a great movie to watch as a family as well. One thing I would also recommend is to read the novel; although it’s not necessary to, I feel that you’d be able to be more attached to the movie this way.

Interesting movie - it made me remember my days in elementary school and the "popular" kids versus the ones who got picked on. I thought the story was a bit long, but well acted.

I love this movie! It's so well done and has great performances by everyone; especially Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as Augie's parents. I would love to read the book again, but even so, the film version follows the book pretty closely and their casting picks were great! A feel-good movie that is rare these days. If you remember the movie "Mask" staring Cher and Eric Stoltz, this is slightly similar but has a much lighter tone. This is a great movie for everyone. Families should love it!
