A beautiful yet very stressful story. As far as narrative structures go, it's pretty perfect.

We watched it in the theater and really enjoyed it. Easy to see why it got the best movie award.

Very disappointing film! Three Billboards and Darkest Hour are far superior films! The only decent performance was by Sally Hawkins! Casting was poor, script was weak and at times silly and not believable. The ridiculous violent scenes were amateurish and belonged in one of those mindless American action films! DEFINITELY NOT A BEST PICTURE IN MY ESTIMATION!

not a bad .. CHICK-★-FLICK
not as good .. as HELL-★-BOY

this (academy award) film is about Beastiality in the early 1960s
the romance of a (mentally ill &) narcissistic MONSTER of white-★-america.

Excellent movie. No wonder it got so many awards and nominations. Filmed mainly in Canada as well, Toronto and Hamilton.

Guillermo del Toro directed many good movies, this movie is another one of his works that I like.

Since early American cinema, movies like King Kong, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Day the Earth Stood Still, etc. used their monsters or non-human characters to symbolize The Other--something that was unknown and threatened the state of American society. And to have an immigrant to the United States take that idea and subvert the intent behind The Other in such a way that is uplifting and sincere...well, Guillermo del Toro won Best Director for a reason. This movie won Best Picture for a reason.
This is a wonderful, wonderful movie. I'd been waiting for it since August 2017, and even when it came into theatres, showtimes were limited in my area. But I did see it, and it's everything I would want out of a film labeled as a fairy tale for adults.
The leads are charming, I fell in love with them almost immediately. The antagonist holds such a presence that I wanted to see his comeuppance happen with swift justice. The insight into the 1960s paints a gritty picture that shows, yes, it was an unfair time for someone who was disabled, or black, or gay, or something...Other.
I cried at the end, and it's a rare thing for a film to achieve.
Such a good movie, oh gosh.

If you like King Kong or Beauty and the Beast, you will like this film. Just a strange remake of the same old story. Sally Hawkins is a great actress and should have been nominated for best actress in Maudie which also should have been nominated for best picture instead of The Shape of Water.

Loved it.

This movie is refreshing. Guillermo Del Toro does not disappoint. I really enjoyed the all the themes and details of this movie especially the time period and not in our current timeline. It is also an adaptation of the book, of which is on my reading list. I loved the fact that the main character is not typical protagonist female lead. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I found it truly refreshing. I found the scene of "How?" very amusing and I still talk about it because Octavia Spencer's character's reaction is truly relatable. I find this unique love story and respect for life of all sorts very refreshing and inspiring. Let's have more of these films please! Please make more movies Guillermo Del Toro!!!
