Add a CommentI loved this novel. I thought the 2 main characters were wonderfully drawn, flawed and realistic. I love medical dramas on television and loved all the medical detail in this novel.
I was gripped by the characters, their professional and their complex personal lives and couldn't put the book down.
I hope this author writes other novels. I enjoyed her style of writing and her philosophical reflections and keen to see where her writing will take her.
I liked this book at first, but hated it 1/2 through... i still can't decide whether or not to finish it. Characters started to develop a little bit and then it turned into a harlequin romance. I feel like I'm reading my gma's danielle steel and it's so creepy !!!!
I don't see how to access the *s ...
but if i were to give it stars I would give it one star because (to be honest) the beginning part triggered my curiosity. I guess that's what happens when you judge the book by it's cover. (duoh-- guilty as charged)
Enjoyed this novel so much! I couldn't put it down! Great character descriptions. Felt like I became friends with the women characters. Well done, Dr. Kimmery Martin! Those of us in Charlotte are so proud of you! Can't wait for your next book!
As someone with very close and important female friendships, I always enjoy reading a book wherein the central relationship is a friendship between women. Queen of Hearts is the tale of a decade+ long friendship, and the secret that could unravel it entirely. As the author is a doctor, it makes sense that she would give the two main characters the same profession. However, I would criticize the amount of medical-description is in the book. There is way too much detail about medical procedures and issues and surgeries - and it is not at all needed for the plot. There's basically 2 medical emergencies in the storyline that are integral to how to story unfolds, everything else is just superfluous, and I didn't care at all. I ended up skimming most of those parts. A better editor could have cut like 50 pages of unnecessary description from the book, and it would have a been a much more fluid and enjoyable read.
This was a fun summer read. I wanted to find out what happened with the characters and it kept a decent pace. Found it via the Modern Mrs. Darcy summer reading list.
I really liked this book! I cared about the flawed, realistic characters, loved the behind-the-scenes hospital setting, and enjoyed the author's writing style (though sometimes she was a wee bit too descriptive when describing surgical procedures).
