"They were six university students from Oxford spending a week together in a French farmhouse. It was supposed to be the perfect summer getaway...then they met Severine, the girl next door. For Kate Channing, Severine was an unwelcome presence, her inscrutable beauty undermining the group's loyalties amid already simmering tensions. After a huge altercation on the last night, Kate knew nothing would ever be the same. There are some things you can't forgive. And so people you can't forget...like Severine, who was never seen again" -- Cover, page 4.

3 1/2 stars..... For a first novel, The French Girl is surprisingly good. I figured out "whodunit" - I prefer to be fooled by a very clever author. I became a little tired of the apparition, but grew to like her presence towards the end. I wanted to read the book which is always a good measure of the quality of the narrative. ( It seems lately that I have kissed a few frogs and fought my way to the end of the books. I recommend this one. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Pretty good mystery that keeps the reader guessing almost up to the end. And an interesting exploration of early 20's friendships a few years later when pressure comes to bear upon them.

Read it in less than 48 hours. Reminds me a lot of 'I know what you did last summer".. I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book. Elliott's writing is refreshing, and her characters seem like people you would want to meet. The story was engrossing, with a believable ending.
I look forward to reading her next book!
