Pele. A name known around the world, a sports legend who changed soccer forever, and a national hero who carried the hopes and dreams of a country on his back. But before he was an icon, he was a kid from the slums of Baurú, Brazil, so poor that he couldn't afford a real soccer ball.

I'm not a sports person but enjoyed watching this movie on HD on Netflix before they took it off. Reminds me of Invictus (2009), but felt it was more warm and colourful. It put me into Brazil, and the history and how Pele rose despite the odds to fulfill his father's dreams, and show how an oppressed people's activity that the authorities tried to suppress ended up being the very thing that ultimately made Brazil win the world's cup. It is a story that was brilliantly told, and had amazing film-score interwoven in the story, and I really brought this to life with me. Didn't feel like a staged performance and the suspension of belief was better than Invictus where I could sit back and say "hey, I know these are actors making a representation" and watch it from a distance, but this one had a stronger spell and felt like I was watching the real game and I felt totally immersed in the movie. Great gem.

As a child I idolized Pele, as an adult I watched Pele's legendary achievement come to life with much delight. What a wonderful movie. Brazil is awesome!

I don't care about any team sports, I grew up in a family indifferent to team sports, but I have always known about Pele, and could recognize him by his looks since early childhood. Number 10, yellow t-shirt - everybody knew who it was. Pele is just a special kind of a person, who really deserves all his titles and respect.
The movie is well-made, both boys (Pele-child and then a teen) are very good both in acting and in soccer. Everything looks believable, nothing looks fake. And I actually enjoyed watching that famous football match which was re-enacted in the movie pretty well, though I usually don't care about football (soccer).
A very inspiring great movie.

Being that I am sports illiterate I wasn't going to watch this film as I thought it would be like all the other sport films , but this is an amazing film. It inspired me so much I almost moved to Brazil and bought a soccer ball. To have so much pressure on such a young man, then to succeed under it all. Just a great story line, acting, all were really well done

I know very little about soccer but have always heard about Pele'. Captivating, enjoyable movie. Hopefully not too many liberties taken since Pele' is an executive producer of the movie, and has a cameo role.
