Under the Lights was not as compelling for me as its predecessor, Until Friday Night, simply because I am not a big fan of Gunner's. He just doesn't do it for me. Even though he has struggles and a big life change that is hideous and unfair, it doesn't erase the fact that he is a privileged, misogynistic jerk. Willa does challenge him and break his hard exterior shell somewhat, but I still never found him very endearing. Of course I want Gunner to have peace and happiness, but he needs to do a lot of maturing before he's a character worth caring for.

This is the second book in new series by Abbi Glines, The Field Party series. It has all the angst and multiple possible love interests but lacks the usual steam-ishness typical of Abbi Glines work. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Until Friday Night, but the second instalment didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Willa can’t erase the bad decisions of her past that led her down the path she’s on now. But she can work towards forgiveness. Brady is the high school's quarterback and town golden boy, and Gunner is larger than life and a high school football star who doesn’t care about anyone except himself. But everything changes when Willa comes back to Lawson and she isn't the same little girl that she was 10 years ago, when she was last in Lawson. As secrets come to light and hearts are broken, these former childhood friends must face the truth about growing up and falling in love… even if it means losing each other forever.
This was so amazing, read it in about a day because I got so sucked into the story. This is the second book in the field party series and although it follows different characters, it's set in the same town as the first and the characters from the first make appearances in this one as well. There's something about these books that are really relatable so it really pulls you in the story. Rating 5 out of 5 stars.
