A beautiful book about the joy of sharing meals with people you love. The paper-cut collage style illustrations are enchanting and a feast for the eyes.

A wonderful read-aloud to explore generosity, thankfulness, community, and...delicious stew! The repetition and rhythmic language make this a fun story for children to help retell, and the collage illustrations are simply gorgeous. Share this story during winter holidays or any time of year.

Who doesn’t love gathering around to share a delicious meal? In this story, Omu makes a big pot of stew that her neighborhood can’t get enough of. To thank her, they all get together to plan a surprise. It’s a warm story about sharing, community, and yummy food!

One of my favourite picture books of 2018! A comforting story of community, gathering, giving, and gratitude that is initiated from the travelling scent of Omu's pot of "scrumptious" red stew.

Tender and funny story, Outstandingly fabulous art, and topical issues. Highly recommended. Rose in PR

A fantastic story to share, especially during Thanksgiving, centered around the generosity of an elderly woman who gives away some of her thick red stew to all who come to visit her door asking for a little. Living up to her Nigerian name that translates to "queen," Omu gives what excess food she has to offer, thinking she has more than enough to save for dinner later. Told in a pattern format that is easy to follow and play along with the neighbors' knocking, this story is an absolute treat perfect for teaching the importance of community and sharing. What's more, the book's papier-mâché (paper mache) format does wonders to express the diversity and expressiveness of Omu's community and will likely fascinate any observant, young readers.

This is a lovely story about a older woman's generosity impacting her community at large. Thank you, Omu! talks to the audience through the language of food. Omu's stew is so irresistibly fragrant that practically the entire neighborhood stops by to ask for a taste of it. Of course she happily obliges until there is none left for her! Not to worry though, her friends and neighbors happily return her kindness by bringing her a virtual feast. Thank you, Omu! is like a hot bowl of soup on chilly day autumn day, it just makes me feel cozy and happy.

What a wonderful tale of community, giving, and gratitude! Pair this with Janet Lord's Albert the Fix-it Man for a story-time on community, community helpers, or giving.
