Olive is so cool! This was my second favourite Kayla Miller book - my first being Act. I highly recommend this book, and all the other Kayla Miller's books!

Olive is a great role model for kids! She is friends with a lot of different kinds of people. Unfortunately, this means that she doesn't "click" with just one type. Lucky for her, she has a supportive family that pushes her to find a solution to her problem. Hooray for Olive being a true individual and class act!

Perfect for kids ages 8-12 and fans of Raina Telgemeier or Shannon Hale.

This debut graphic novel does a great job modelling problem-solving. Olive is in the 5th grade and enjoys spending time with lots of different kids. When it is time to decide on an act for the 5th Grade Variety Show it seems like Olive is the odd girl out -- everyone else is in a group. While she ponders that dilemma her Aunt Molly comes up with a great way to research variety shows and Olive has her "aha" moment. I especially liked the dream sequences and the way Olive's mother restrained herself from jumping to the rescue. A great start to a new middle grade graphic novel series!

This book is very relatable and written (and drawn) very well. Highly recommend.

Fifth grader Olive has lots of friends, but not one best friend. When it comes time for the school variety show, she finds that works against her. Every “clique” in the grade has their own act, and she just doesn’t quite “click” with anybody else. Her mom just wants to jump in and call Emilie’s mom and ask if Olive can join Emilie’s act. That is the LAST thing Olive wants, of course. She wants her friends to WANT her in their group. It’s a good thing cool, blue-streak-haired Aunt Molly is there to bounce ideas off. And now Olive just might have the perfect idea for how she can participate. The experiences in this book for Olive seem so right on with what I remember from 5th grade and what I hear from my own 5th grade daughter! I can’t wait to read the next one in the series, Camp!
