The Adventure Zone
2, Murder on the Rockport Limited!
Book - 2019
"In the second Adventure Zone graphic novel (adapted from the McElroy family's wildly popular D&D podcast), we rejoin hero-adjacent sort-of-comrades-in-arms Taako, Magnus, and Merle on a wild careen through a D&D railroad murder mystery. This installment has a little of everything: a genius child detective, an axe-wielding professional wrestler, a surly wizard, cursed magical artifacts, and a pair of meat monsters. You know, the usual things you find on a train"-- Publisher's website.

At this point in the adaptation, there are certain changes made to keep character cohesion throughout the whole of TAZ, and I enjoy it very much.
I love the designs of the new NPCs with standout favorites being
- Graham the juicy wizard (we love a beard and a passion for trains)
- Garfield the Deals Warlock (Is he the lasagna cat? Who's to say)
- Angus MacDonald (a very good lad)
- and Jenkins (if you've listened to the podcast, the design fits the voice perfectly).
Now, I can't say why the ending in the book is more potent than it was in the original arc because of spoilers, but the changes have given character motivations more weight. It leaves me excited when these hinted story elements will pop off, and they WILL pop off.
If you can't wait for the rest of the books, you can give the podcast a listen and laugh and cry and experience this roller coaster ride of a story.
