Set in ancient Japan, tells the sweeping story of the clash between the mythic gods of the forest and the humans who encroach upon the forestland. Ashitaka is a warrior who, in doing battle with a rampaging forest god, is inflicted with a life-threatening curse. Ashitaka travels to a far-away land to find a cure, but finds himself immmersed in the conflict between the forest gods and a village of iron miners, led by the relentless Lady Eboshi. Princess Mononoke, the adopted daughter of the wolf goddess, fights for the forest gods against the humans. "Mononoke" is not a name but a general term in Japanese for a spirit/god/monster of the natural world.

From Library Staff

Princess Mononoke is another praised movie, and was one of the first to establish a close relation with Disney. It even managed to secure time in local theaters!

A fantastic movie told with the high quality we expect from Studio Ghibli. I'm not convinced the title is entirely accurate though, considering the main character is not the title character.
