The 1988 remake, also titled "The Blob," is pretty decent. It was filmed in Abbeville, Louisiana.

Believe me - "The Blob" is one of those quirky SyFy/Monster films from yesteryear that (if you are willing to cut it some serious slack) can really be a helluva lot of fun to watch when it comes to all of the unintentionally humorous stuff.

With all of the wooden performances, the laughable dialogue, and the priceless "old-school" blob-effects - This is definitely one of those truly zany movies that really needs to be seen by all of you enthusiastic fans of 1950s low-budget schlock to be fully appreciated.

WHAT A PROPHETIC ENDING? Love that "smokey" question mark!!
I'm waiting for the sequel......the sea ice will soon be gone!!!
Simple life...simple monsters!!!
McQueen is great, isn't he???!!!

Believe me - They sure don't make 'em like this one anymore. "The Blob" is the type of SyFy/Monster fright flick that could've only come out of the mindset of 1950s movie-making.

Produced on a super-tight budget of just $240,000 and filmed in and around Valley Forge, Pennsylvania - I'd be sure to bet you that "The Blob" probably ranks in the top 10 of SyFy films that holds the world's record for the most priceless, unintentionally hilarious moments, ever.

You've really gotta see "The Blob" for yourself to know what I'm talking about here..... Yes. Indeed. This one is an absolute scream of horror-movie fun.

Creaky and creepy, sustained by Steve McQueen's presence and the surprisingly effective special effects. And, yes, that's Helen Crump ( Aneta Corsaut ), Andy Taylor's sweetums from The Andy Griffith Show looking a bit long in the tooth to be playing a teenager. Well, so does McQueen.
As an addendum, the remake actually succeeds in besting the original, all sans CGI.

Unintentionally hilarious 1950's SyFy/Horror.

Not bad, I came for Steve Mcqueen and stayed for the frozen jello. I was thinking the same thing as Jelinekl... Will the arctic stay frozen for ever Lt. Dave? We shall see....

PS Isn't it amazing how well dressed and polite people were back in the day?

"Beware of the Blob!"

The Blob is a low-budget Sci-Fi/Horror film from 1958 that is so bad that it's actually quite hilariously entertaining. The monster scenes are absolutely priceless to watch. And Steve McQueen's wooden performance (as the hero) is the ultimate nadir of bad acting.

I've watched this several times over the years. Most of it was filmed in Downingtown, PA, about 30 minutes from where I grew up and where my brother now lives. The theater & grocery store scenes were filmed in Phoenixville, at the Colonial Theater on Bridge St and the former state liquor store down the street. I have fond memories of that theater. And after the liquor store moved out of that location in the early '80s, I attended a church that took its place. I'm not sure what's in that spot now.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: it is scary but it does not show anything that will give kids 8 years old or older nightmares unlike the 1988 remake of the film

Violence: it is pretty violent when the blob attacks someone but shows nothing

Frightening or Intense Scenes: When the blob attacks at the movie theater it gets pretty intense, in a fun sort of way.
