Wow - loved this film - Charlie Parker is really an American treasure - it's unfortunate that he had to sustain his life with his demons - but most genius do. The acting was fantastic really a stellar cast - my heart ached for this wife Chan - I thought as I started this film I wouldn't make it since it's well over two hours - but as It turned out I could've watched at least another hour - great cast - stayed true to history - very entertaining and heartbreaking - RIP Bird

A bit slow, and the dialogue seemed somewhat forced, but it was an interesting portrait of an innovative musician.

Gritty dark film. Parker was a tragic figure who had great talent. He had the ability to rise when he played. It seems that so many great jazz and blues artists come from harsh backgrounds. I wonder how we never see enough movies about wealthy, privileged people playing great music.

Very disappointing, and I'm a Bird fan. The film is dark, and not just the theme. Poor dialog, disjointed editing, and an unclear message.

If this is a biopic, it's like history as reciting dates and events without context. The only acting part with even a little motivational depth is Dizzy. Otherwise most of the picture has paper thin characters rushing from set to set to say their shallow lines.

I wanted so much to like this movie, but I found it to be frustratingly empty, outside of the soundtrack. There is a music only option on the DVD, but I already have Bird CDs.

Great production, good direction (not Eastwood's best, the symbolism - actually, cymbal-ism - is a little heavy-handed), terrific cast and, of course, great music. Unfortunately, the doomed-artist bio has become a cliché, even when it`s the truth, and it`s just so depressing to see an incredible gift just p***ed away.
