I love these suspenseful, twisting movies that I have no clue as to what will happen next. Well done.

Could've been a movie about any (highly corruptable) leader of any nation - AND it was well done, per the (many) positive comments here. Brosnan was far from the typical superhero in this one- just curious and attentive as good writers are, getting himself into something far more dangerous than he anticipated, playing much by ear, learning sometimes the hard way how to manage a number of elements along the way. All that did not deter the rich suspense, nor the thrill rides.

How sad. This movie really does have potential, as far as suspense & production design, but alas, it's its' own worst enemy. First off, I'd have to assume that terrorist groups (or their sympathizers) funded this project. And then of course, it deteriorates directly to a partisan attack on any "conservative" administration. (Noted, when the movie was made, but it doesn't change that point.) They even have an actress that looks like Condi's twin sister, in a very thinly veiled (none) presentation of whom the PM & Pres are supposed to be, with all the usual leftist jabs and cuts throughout. Then there are several things that are a stretch, as far as not making sense or being believable actions from the main character. (That's aside from the perfunctory adultery scene, no matter how out of the characters it is, and how much it doesn't make sense and is definitely not needed.) The cherry on top (no pun intended), is that the ending is outrageously stupid, unbelievable, and the same absurd formula that's been used f-o-r-e-v-e-r!
Get rid of all the B.$. propaganda (i.e. "message"), and this could be a great film.
I will say the acting is good, and Eli Wallach was still fantastic, even though it was basically a cameo.

I have a problem with Roman Polanski as a person, but as a director, ya gotta credit him. This film is stylish, sophisticated and polished. It is a film that Hitchcock would make, were he in his prime today. Based on the book by Robert Harris (most famous for Fatherland), it is a tight, atmospheric thriller with a lot of very plausible background. The Pierce Brosnan character is based on Tony Blair. This should be required viewing after seeing The Queen, if only to erase the whitewashed character of Blair in that film.

Good movie

A good adaptation of Robert Harris's book. The initial slow pace speeds up building tension. Some of the characters' motives are not clear. Good entertainment.

Excellent psychological thriller combined with political corruption and international intrigue. The movie is as good as the book.

Pierce Brosnan is one of my top three favorite all-time actors and I also like Ewan McGregor very much so the two in a movie together has great appeal. I enjoyed this film again (second time watching). Lots of suspense, twists and surprises with great location scenery. Ewan's bit of humor in his role's dialogue (like in "The Island") adds dimension to his character in a serious situation.

The main body of the movie is OK.

The ending is unclear. Leaves a viewer frustrated.

Typical Suspense story, not sure what the ending means but still a good watch. Had a hard time keeping track of who was who to whom and what they were important for.
