Ron Howard strikes gold again after making 'SPLASH' the previous year. 'COCOON' is a beautifully written story about a fountain of youth appearing in a south Florida residence, and the opportunities/considerations it offers those who discover it. Moving, funny, and exciting, with great efforts from all involved. Brian Dennehy is wonderful as an unusually compassionate 'foreigner', as is Howard's brother Clint as a pesky orderly (Howard's parents also make appearances; it's great how Ron always found fitting parts for family). A good surround-sound system is recommended, as the music score here is in places rather heavenly (especially in the third act, and during the underwater sequences). Howard replaced Robert Zemeckis as director after Fox Studios lost faith in Zemeckis due to 'ROMANCING THE STONE' getting a poor preview. Alas, everything turned out for the best as this left Ron Howard to make 'COCOON', while Zemeckis instead made 'BACK TO THE FUTURE'. 1985 was quite a year for movies!

Fairly classic but, like the cast, showing its age.

Don Ameche won an Oscar for his role in this movie. On the other hand, Steve Guttenberg (of Police Academy, Police Academy 2, Police Academy 3, and Police Academy 4) is also in this. 'Nuff said.

A great Movie by Ron Howard! I just wish the Edmonton Public Library had the sequel to it!
