Add a CommentEmily Giffen comes through again with a well written and wonderful story. Her characters are always developed so well you think that you would recognize them in a crowd. She touches on some emotional issues from all sides so you feel you know just how each person feels. She is always a good read.
A book about broken relationships being placed back together again. Marian Caldwell is a hotshot TV producer living the life in NYC, when one night a knock on her door changes everything. Kirby Rose (the most beautiful name!) standing there wanting an answer, but more importantly, acceptance. As the book progresses, we flash back and forth between past and present, alternating between the two voices chapter after chapter.
Lighter book, perfect for summer reading.
This is the first book I read by this author and it won't be the last! Excellent, thoroughly enjoyed it!
Don't understand how this book got such a high overall rating, but then I don't consider myself an expert on chick-lit. If this is considered some of the best of its kind, then that's one more genre off the list. I read maybe 50 pages of this: the story seemed completely predictable, there was nothing particularly original about the characters, and the writing, to be charitable, is pedestrian.
I couldn't put this one down. A great read all round!
"Marian Caldwell is in her thirties -- a successful Manhattan television producer -- when the daughter she gave up for adoption 18 years previously shows up on her doorstep. Her carefully constructed life thrown into turmoil, Marian and her emotionally untethered daughter are swept up in a storm of personal discovery as they embark on a quest to discover what they truly value and where they really belong. With great pacing and believable characters, this search for identity astutely captures the complicated issue of never feeling like you fit in." A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "This was an easy and enjoyable read by Emily Giffin. I have read all of her books and enjoyed them all!"
I loved this book and all the twists and turns. Never a dull moment and every chapter made me anxious for the next. From beginning to end I was engrossed.
This book came in a grab bag of romance novels put together by the regional library, "no peeking!" It was so much more. It involves a gut-wrenching story of decisions made when teenage love goes awry, mistakes result in choices made where life will never be the same. Long-held secrets stand in the way of authentic living and get dismantled. Powerful, evocative, get ready to be moved and changed and wonder "what if" in your own life.
This is definitely my favorite Emily Giffin book and I truly enjoyed reading it. Recommended to anyone who loves Emily's other novels or Sophie Kinsella. In the end, I recommend it to everyone.
