Children's Graphic Novels that Teach Powerful Lessons It is a common misconception that graphic novels are not "real books." That misconception cannot be further from the truth. Graphic novels are full of text and provide a great many benefits to young readers! "But," you may say, "they are full of pictures, how can my older child benefit from reading this?" Not only do graphic novels… (more)

Summary
Add a SummaryCat’s family has just moved to Bahía de la Luna, leaving behind their life in southern California. Cat is sad to be separated from her friends, but the coastal weather will be better for her sister’s health. Maya has cystic fibrosis, and the cool seaside air may help her struggling lungs. Bahía de la Luna turns out to be haunted, and the residents of the town take living alongside ghosts for granted. This terrifies Cat, but Maya is determined to meet a ghost for herself. Unfortunately for Cat, their new neighbour Carlos knows all the best spots as the local tour guide, including the abandoned mission. In order to help her sister, Cat will have to face up to her own fears.

Add a CommentCat's family is moving to a coastal town to help Cat's little sister Maya cope better with her chronic illness, cystic fibrosis. Cat must cope with losing her old friends, making new ones, and living in a town where everyone seems to be obsessed with ghosts. This graphic novel helps readers understand what it is like being the older sibling of someone suffering from a chronic illness. It also uses the Mexican culture surrounding Dia de los Muertos to tell the story of how Cat and Maya both come to terms with Maya's illness. This one is definitely a tear-jerker in the best way!

I was a bit thrown off by the supernatural element in this one, but still a lovely story. Raina Telgemeier never disappoints!
I really enjoyed reading Ghosts. It was a really interesting book. I love reading graphic novels and this book was an amazing graphic novel. I give 3/5 star rating because it wasn't my favourite but it was still really good.
This is my favourite book and we own it. I've read it so many times that it is now falling apart.
