This is an interesting story about something that I knew absolutely nothing about -- the creation of the Cherokee alphabet. It's not the most action-packed of books, meaning I don't think it's for all kids, but for those who are a bit more patient, there's a really important message here about the importance of having one's own language and alphabet, and I am quite glad that I read this. (Also, it's just an interesting peek into life in a Cherokee tribe in the early 19th century, so historical fiction fans will likely find lots to appreciate here as well.)
