Maya Angelou is heralded as one of the most recognized voices of African American poetry and literature. Given her poetical talent and gifts, she has traveled the world from culture to culture after accepting invitation to recite her works in person. Her serene, peaceful readings make for a wonderful oratory experience and it is no surprise Maya Angelou has been asked by global leaders to be a special, honored guest by greats like Nelson Mandela, Former President Clinton and Former President Barack Obama. Her concise, lyrical sentences bloom with rich sensory experiences, experiences that are calls to recognizing powerful emotions of pride, belonging and acceptance. She provides readers with raw truths, shares genuine pain, demonstrates an everlasting call for growth, transformation and wisdom. In the face of adversity Maya Angelou demonstrates her ability to recognize confrontation, dilemmas and transform them in a way that exudes grace, understanding and empathy as a woman of color. She dotes on the human condition as an African American woman and all multifaceted aspects of it - from relationships to family to work to nature to society she leaves no stone unturned in her poetical looking glass. Momentous poems like Still I Rise shows the resilience of the female spirit - her lyrics share, despite stigmas she may endure, she will not be controlled by foolish perceptions but instead will overcome what problems may stumble her way with rigor and devotion. She shares her philosophy of undeniable and temporal self-acceptance, appreciation and lets this mantra be her guide to a strong, calm presence. Oh Pray My Wings Are Gonna Fit Me Well is Angelou's ode to religious expression and call for faith in times of resounding adversity. Angelou often cites her faith and how it influences her well-being and enables her to find satisfaction and meaning in life despite turmoil. Maya Angelou's Complete Collection of Poems is an absolute classic for the serious poetry enthusiast as, even in a posthumous poetry modernity, Maya Angelou's writings and elegant voice continues her legacy as one of the world's most cherished female poets. - Review Written by Danielle
