Harrison Ford and Gene Wilder star as a taciturn gunslinger and a clueless immigrant rabbi traveling across the Wild West in the comic adventures of The Frisco Kid.Ranked 87th out of 88 in his rabbinical class, Avram Belinski (Wilder--Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein) accepts a posting to Gold Rush-era San Francisco. Speaking little English but following a leading from God, the young rabbi sets out from Philadelphia for San Francisco, believing his destination to be a short walk. Along the way he befriends bank robber Tommy Lillard (Ford--Indiana Jones films, Star Wars films). Now, as this mismatched pair crosses the frontier, the Old West will never be the same.

Better than some have said, and certainly not Gene Wilder nor Harrison Ford's best, but I enjoyed this mostly corny film, which is really not about religion at all, but friendship, and overcoming seemingly unsurmountable obstacles which life sometimes puts in our past. Not to mention a few chuckles along the way,

Harrison Ford says both vulgar words and words that took Our LORD's name in vain. The Jewish religion is not the real religion. Catholicism is. Hollywood would never make a movie like this with a priest instead of a rabbi. Not at all recommended.

Painfully unfunny. A box-office bomb in its day, scarcely distributed at all. And it has aged poorly. Turgidly paced; each minute of the 118-minute running time lasts an eternity. Gene Wilder's beard is nice, and that's about it.

It may not be as obviously side splitting as some of Gene Wilder's other movies, but I thought the acting was perfect, the chemistry superb, and the jokes witty. To me, the movie is less of a cocktail full of flavors and various types of alcohol and more of a fine wine.
